Mitigating Methane Emission from the Rice Ecosystem through Organic Amendments

چکیده

Tamil Nadu in particular is a key rice-producing region peninsular India. Hydrochemistry, viz., redox potential (Rh), soil temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO), of rice soils can determine the production greenhouse gas methane (CH4). In recent decades, cultivation crops organically became viable option for mitigating climate change. Hence, this study aimed to investigate effects different organic amendments on CH4 emission, Rh, DO, water (T) relation yield paddy. The treatments composed control, blue-green algae (BGA), Azolla, farm yard manure (FYM), green leaf (GLM), + FYM GLM, BGA Azolla vermicompost decomposed livestock manure. With addition highest reduction emission was 37.9% over control followed by BGA. However, same treatment had 50% 43% increase Rh respectively, control. Established Pearson correlation analyses showed that positive with (r = 0.880 **) T 0.888 negative correlations −0.987 DO −0.963 **). higher grain 26.5% associated GLM application. Our findings there are significant differences emissions between hydro-parameters may be more important controlling factor than temperature. conclusion has been drawn based valid research bio-fertilization using an efficient feasible approach combat change, as it assists reducing while simultaneously boosting crop fixing nitrogen into studied agro-climatic zone.

Mitigating methane emission from paddy soil with rice-straw biochar amendment under projected climate change

Elevated global temperatures and increased concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere associated with climate change will exert profound effects on rice cropping systems, particularly on their greenhouse gas emitting potential. Incorporating biochar into paddy soil has been shown previously to reduce methane (CH4) emission from paddy rice under ambient temperature and CO2. We exam...

Effect of organic materials and rice cultivars on methane emission from rice field.

A field experiment was conducted for two years on a sandy loam (Typic Ustochrept) soil of Punjab to study the effect of organic materials and rice cultivars on methane emission from rice fields. The methane flux varied between 0.04 and 0.93 mg m(-2) hr(-1) in bare soil and transplanting of rice crop doubled the methane flux (0.07 to 2.06 mg m(-2) hr(-1)). Among rice cultivars, significantly (p ...

Methane emission from a simulated rice field ecosystem as influenced by hydroquinone and dicyandiamide.

A simple apparatus for collecting methane emission from a simulated rice field ecosystem was formed. With no wheat straw powder amended all treatments with inhibitor(s) had so much lower methane emission during rice growth than the treatment with urea alone (control), which was contrary to methane emission from the cut rice-soil system. Especially for treatments with dicyandiamide (DCD) and wit...

Dynamic Emission of CH4 from a Rice-Duck Farming Ecosystem

Global climatic change induced by emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities is an issue of increasing international environmental concerns, and agricultural practices and managements are the important contributors for such emissions. This study investigated dynamic emission of methane (CH4) from a paddy field in a rice-duck farming ecosystem. Three different cultivation treatments, na...

Increasing sensitivity of methane emission measurements in rice through deployment of ‘closed chambers’ at nighttime

This study comprises field experiments on methane emissions from rice fields conducted with an Eddy-Covariance (EC) system as well as test runs for a modified closed chamber approach based on measurements at nighttime. The EC data set covers 4 cropping seasons with highly resolved emission rates (raw data in 10 Hz frequency have been aggregated to 30-min records). The diel patterns were very pr...
